I always plan out what i'm going to write about, and when I sit down to actually write I always end up covering something competently different. I like it better though because I get to write about exactly what's on my mind.
I sat down today to write out a perfect holiday gift list for even the hardest to shop for and then got to thinking about role models. When I was younger, I always cited Princess Diana as my number one role model for traits that I always desired to personally attain; timelessness, generosity, and kindness. I always chose public figures who, in my mind, had fought for a nobler cause or had lived an incredibly interesting life.
Even as I grow older, my perception of role models has changed. Now I see from a broader perspective. I've realized that role models can be anyone and anybody.
I've realized that my biggest role models are people I already know, and sometimes they're people I've seen but never met. I think role models are vital to any child's growth and understanding of life. You know those traits that they really stress in elementary school? Traits such as perseverance, courage, honesty, kindness, empathy? Role models in one shape or another embody some or all of these traits, at least in a child's mind, and help show us life as it could be.
They help represent a person we could become, if we try and focus on doing what's right. I think that as adults, it's important to find characteristics we value in everybody we meet.
The main character traits I look for in a role model are integrity, ambition, bravery, compassion, discipline, patience, and sincerity. What traits do you look for in role models? Do you think role models are an important part of growing up?

PS: My main "public figure" role model is now Emma Watson. How iconic, elegant, and downright brilliant can a girl be?! (Can somebody let me in on her secret please?)
